It had been a while, but our band Smack Dab was back at the World-Famous Rib Joint in Dana Point, CA for a gig on Saturday the 27th of June, 2026.  Last time we played at the Rib Joint we played inside (due to the weather) but this time we were back outside, which is great, since we have plenty of room for all our stuff.  As usual, we had a great time, and it is always such a joy to be playing live.  Since I’ve been with Smack Dab for the last three years, we have built up a solid repertoire of classic rock, blues and originals, and we have become pretty tight, if you ask me.  Also, it is close to my house in San Clemente, the hours are great (6:30 PM to 9:30 PM) and they even pay us!  So, for such a great hobby like playing music with others, this is really a good time.  Also, this time I decided to bring my vintage Slingerland kit that I fixed up in spring, so this made the gig even more special.  For being a 50-year old drum kit, it performed really well, and it was super fun to play the old Slingerlands!

Any place that offers live music is a favorite of mine, that’s for sure!  It is a really cool place to play!

As you can see, for a local venue like the World-Famous Rib Joint, they are offering live music almost every night of the week!  We are on for the 27th of June! 

 

 

The Rib Joint is indeed rustic, with much of its 1940 charm still intact. 

 

 

Saturday night, June 27th of 2026, and Smack Dab is ready to play! 

 

 

For this gig, I decided to bring my vintage Slingerland kit, that I fixed up in the spring.  If you wanna know more about the Slingerland, you can check out my blogpost “Saving the old Slingerland single-headed kit!” published March 05, 2026.  For being a 50-year old drum kit, it performed really well, and it was super fun to play!    

 

 

As usual, Marc had put together our setlist for the evening.  With some 60 songs in our current repertoire, Marc will pick and choose, and of course we will play all our favorites!  This is set one and two.

Lars’ Latest Health Issue: But this time it is different!

Keeping Mentally Sharp at 70 and Beyond; Part Two: Fix, Make and Build Things!

  As I now enter into my seventies, I’m well aware that for me and my contemporaries, there will be some “normal” age-related cognitive decline; I myself experience situations where I can’t think of the right word, can’t remember somebody’s name, or I lose stuff that I seemingly had right in front of my eyes just a few seconds ago.   All of this is annoying to say the least, but I’m thinking that maybe we can slow this “normal” state of affairs a little bit, maybe with some new ways of thinking, and maybe doing!   Caveat; I’m not a neuroscientist, I’m not an MD, I’m not a psychologist or psychiatrist, I’m just a guy that’s been alive on the planet for seventy years, and I’m hoping to be on this side of the grass for as long as possible! Working for a living Part One: Stockholm, summer 1969 through early spring 1981

  My Presam work ID card, circa 1980.  I had combed my hair as a rocker as a silly joke.   As I’m writing this, I’ve been employed full-time since  the spring of 1976, so it seems I’ve been working continuously for almost 50 years, earning a paycheck!  Not bad, and the rewards have been plenty; food, rent money, mortgage money, buying stuff (cars, pickup trucks, drums, houses, horses, education, vacations, etc.), and making sure that my family was fed and had a roof over their heads.  I like working, and I’m still at it, and I’ll keep it up as long as anybody is willing to pay me for what I do, whatever that is!  A little note about my employment history back in Sweden; back then (1970-1980) it was customary to issue a final written performance review, and for some reason, I saved them all, with the exception of my first job.  So, even though I had forgotten the dates, when I found the records (you will see them below), the dates became accur...
