Smack Dab at the World-Famous Rib Joint in Dana Point, Saturday 04-25-2026!

From Left to Right:  Smack Dab is Lloyd Brown, lead vocals and guitar; Allison Friedman, lead vocals and guitar; Marc Repaire, lead guitar and vocals; Kent Richards, bass and vocals and myself on the drums.  You can reach us at SmackDabGroup@gmail.com.

Well, on Saturday the 25th of April, 2026, our band Smack Dab again had great pleasure to play at the World-Famous Rib Joint in the great little beach town of Dana Point, CA.  As I’ve mentioned before, over the last couple of years we’ve done quite a few gigs at the Rib Joint, and it is a great little place to get out and actually play in front of people.  As us musicians know, practicing only gets you so far; in order to see if all that repetition has paid off is to play in front of people!  Also, the hours (6:30 to 9:30 PM) are great, and with a bit of luck, I’m in bed by 11:00 PM!

We had originally planned on playing outdoors; however, even though it hadn’t rained for a month, for some reason, we got rain on Saturday night!  So we played indoors, which is a bit tight, but as a gigging band, you gotta be prepared to “pivot” (a fancy corporate term that simply means “change your plans”), and go with the flow!  Besides, playing indoors at the Rib Joint means that I don’t have to schlepp my PA, since Marc brought his little Fender Passport, which has plenty of power for an indoor gig at a place like the Rib Joint.  It is a treat whenever I can just bring my drums, and they all fit in the back of my Jeep!

The Jeep is all loaded up with my drums!  Let’s go to the Rib Joint and play a gig!

Back at the Rib Joint!  The Rib Joint is located at 34294 Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point, CA.

It is 5 PM, and the skies are very dark over Dana Point.  Later on, we got a bit of rain (which, by the way, is always welcome in Southern California).

Live Music at the Rib Joint, gotta love it!

Here is the Rib Joint!  Given that the Joint was built in 1940, we are happy that the place is still standing!

Since we were playing indoors, I brought along my little British-made Premier XPK kit.  I’ve got this kit all dampened up (you can see the pillow in the bass drum), and I’ve got Remo Muffl dampening rings on the 10” and 14” toms.  Also, as you can tell from the picture, the Rib Joint’s décor is quite rustic…

In order to dampen the sound, I usually wrap a towel on the snare drum.  Love those Bungie cords!

Smack Dab is gig ready!

It is all about the guitars!

And let’s not forget about the pedals!  The more the better!

As usual, Marc had put together our set list, complete with his analog date stamp!  Gotta love it, the man is soooooo organized!  This is set one and set two.

And here is set three!  By the way, we never got around to Everlong; too loud to play in a small space…

Smack Dab in action!

As always, playing with Smack Dab is a real treat, and I’m happy to be out there playing in front of people, and hanging out with the band.  The key is to keep going, don’t dwell on the past, don’t worry about the future, but be in the moment of the song.  I Love It!

Here are a few videos from the evening (by the way, if you like my videos, you can also check out my little YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@peterlindwall8875):
