The Huskies Got New Raincoats!

As I’m writing this on Friday the 21st of November, 2025, we got quite a bit of rain this week, so it was time to get new raincoats for our two huskies, Lars and Misha.  The old dog raincoats that we have had for over a decade had finally got tattered and pretty much lost all of their waterproofing, so off to the Walmart website we went!

Lars’ old raincoat, complete with a trash bag for waterproofing, held in place with duct tape!  It works, but not very attractive!

Misha and her old raincoat; pretty much all the elastic straps are gone, and it is not very waterproof anymore…

Even though we probably only use the dog raincoats some 10 days per year (gotta love that wonderful Mediterranean San Clemente weather), you don’t want a wet husky in the house!  Because of the long, dense husky fur, it usually takes hours for a husky to dry, and even though a husky don’t smell, when wet they do, trust me!

The dogs have pretty much become our life, and I pretty much schedule may day around dog-walking.  I usually tell people that their job is to get me out of the house, at least three times per day!  That’s the beauty of having dogs with their routines; they get you up in the morning and they get you into bed at a reasonable time at night, and I usually walk anywhere between 3 to 5 miles per day, great exercise!  Lars has also become my very best friend, hanging out with me in my little office / guest room when I work:

Lars is hanging out with me, pretending to be a guard dog!

So Kathy found some really cool dog raincoats on the Walmart website, and after reading a fair amount of reviews, we bought four of them in various sizes, just to make sure they would fit (according to the reviews, they run small, which was true).  And like a true swede, I love the blue and yellow, just like the Swedish flag!  I also like the fact that they have a strap that goes around their bellies, which holds the raincoat in place really good, and they are very fashionable!

Misha and her new raincoat, complete with reflectors!  She does not particularly like to wear a raincoat, but sometimes she doesn’t have a choice!

The MAMORE dog raincoat.  Note that they run small, so if you are thinking of buying this brand, order at least a couple of sizes and try them out, and return what don’t fit!

So on Wednesday evening we got the new dog raincoats on the dogs, and as it so happened, it was raining pretty hard, but with their new raincoats, the dogs stayed reasonably dry.  Of course, their heads, legs and tails still get wet, but it is still better than a husky that is soaked right through!

Lars is ready for a little walk in the rain!  Since Lars had his neck abscess, I bought him a sturdy harness that doesn’t put pressure on his neck, and now he is a proper sled dog!

Misha is ready to brave the elements!
