Washing the husky dogs, Saturday May 24, 2025
Hi Everybody!
On Saturday the 24th of May, 2025, we decided to drive down to Carlsbad to wash the huskies. They usually get baths every 6 months or so, whether they need it or not! Great thing about huskies is that their fur usually doesn't smell, and with regular brushing they can be kept pretty clean. Nevertheless, like any dog, they do need their baths on occasion. Now, the reason we drive the 40 miles all the way down to Unleashed in Carlsbad is due to the fact that they have four self-wash tubs, and the tubs are low enough so that Lars the male husky can get in. Even so, he still needs to use a little step stool to get in the tub, and he cries pretty much the whole time!

So, it all starts by getting the dogs in the tubs; we usually get Misha in with no problems, but Lars is another story. He cries and cries, and he needs the step stool and a couple of treats in the tube before he decides to get in. Now the fun really starts; I usually wash Misha, and Kathy washes Lars. Even though we wear aprons, we usually get soaked to the skin, just like the dogs! They usually shake every 2 minutes, and there is water everywhere.

On the way back, we decided to drive up Pacific Coast Highway for a while, rather than taking the freeway. PCH goes right through downtown Carlsbad, or Carlsbad Village as it is also known. Carlsbad Village is really cute, and the town has obviously spent a good amount of money to make sure that Carlsbad is great little place to visit. A bonus is the proximity to the beach, maybe a 5 minute walk from downtown! The dogs were sleeping in the back of the truck, traumatized by the bath experience!

On Sunday, after we took the dogs for their usual morning walk, we decided to give both dogs a good brushing, since the bath brought out a bunch of loose dead hair. Misha is pretty easy to brush, but as usual, Lars is another story. The only way that we can brush Lars is to feed him snacks as we brush him; fortunately, he is happy just getting his dog food kibbles, as long as they are offered up continuously during the brushing!
